The musician founded his first rock band called "Birth Control" in 1967. What started as a hobby, Balder also turned into a career. He earned his living as a drummer, lyricist and composer and was also able to sign several record deals. But he didn't have a hit until 1985 with "Erna Comes". His artistic streak was not limited to music; Balder was also fascinated by theater. After briefly studying graphics and art, he began a three-year training course at Else Bogner's acting school in Berlin. From 1973 to 1979 he played various roles at the Berlin Schiller Theater.
However, classical theater seemed too serious for him in the long run and he switched to cabaret. From 1985 to 1988 he was seen, alongside Harald Schmidt, in the "Kom(m)ödchen" in Düsseldorf, where he was a member of the ensemble. From 1979, Balder also worked as a radio presenter on "Radio Luxemburg" (RTL). There he moderated various programs until 1990, such as the successful productions "Mahlzeit" and "Casino Parade". This was followed by the step from radio to television. Balder played in several television films and also cinema productions. He had his first television entertainment program in 1982 on ZDF. There he moderated "Vorsicht Musik" as the dog Feldmann, to whom he lent his voice, together with Frank Zander.
In 1988, the program "Alles, Nicht, Oder?", which Hugo Egon Balder moderated together with Hella von Sinnen, followed. The show was particularly impressive because of Ms. von Sinnen's eccentric costumes and the cake fight at the end. "Tutti Frutti" followed immediately afterwards. No program sparked as much discussion and raised as many questions as "Tutti Frutti," which was first shown on German television on January 21, 1990. Up to four million viewers tuned in regularly. From 1993 onwards, Balder also worked as a producer, including for RTL "Saturday Night" and Frank Elstner's entertainment show "April, April".
In 1997 he made his debut as a director for the television film "Silvia's Belly". Since January 2003, Balder has hosted the comedy show "Genial Neben" on Sat.1. At the same time, he became a jury member for the casting show "Star Search," which entered its second round in 2004. At the NEO Awards 2004, Hugo Egon Balder was awarded the prize for "best comedy website". Shortly afterwards, his program "Genial Neben" was awarded the "German Television Prize" in the category "Best Entertainment Program/Best Moderation Entertainment". Together with Anke Engelke, Balder moderated the "German Television Prize" in October 2005.
At the Golden Camera awards ceremony in February 2006, Hugo Egon Balder was honored in the "Best Television Entertainment" category. From 2008, Hugo Egon Balder was seen as the presenter of the musical casting show "I Tarzan, You Jane". This program was looking for the main roles for the German edition of the musical of the same name.- Boris Aljinovic was born on 23 June 1967 in West Berlin, West Germany.
